The “Grace Period” is a 30-day travel status period that immediately follows successful completion of your J-1 program. The US Immigration Service (USCIS) allows participants to travel in the U.S. and/or to prepare for and depart the United States. This period is NOT to be included in the program dates entered on the DS-2019 form, and is not to be used for any other purpose (such as working, departing and reentering the U.S. during that period). Interns may not depart and return to the USA during the grace period.
