   Available J-1 Training/Internship Position - Dairy Farm/Creamery Intern

Start Date:April, May or June 2010
Hours:40 hours/week
Compensation:$1500-2400 per month
Location:Long Valley, NJ
Duration:5 - 8 months

Summary:
This company is one of the largest artisanal cheese dairies in the US, milking over 600 ewes, 50 cows and making over 20 types of cheese. This internship will give three motivated candidates the opportunity to learn about dairy farming, cheese production, sales and marketing through hands on experience.

Internship Duties and Activities:
  • Intern will train on and assist with cheese and yogurt production
  • Train on and assist with marketing of dairy products
  • Intern will assist with direct sales at NYC farmer markets
  • Intern will provide affinage and agritourism support

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate Student in the field of: Agriculture, food science, biochemistry or a related field
  • Successful candidate must have or be able to obtain a U.S. drivers license.
  • Must possess good conversational English
  • Strong interest in farming and enjoy the hands on aspect of farming and production of artisanal cheeses
  • Must have a firm commitment to staying on the farm for the full internship period with optional end dates of either October 30 or November 25
