Available J-1 Trainee/ Internship Position - International Tour Operations
Start Date(s): July 1, 2008
Hours: 32-40 hours per week
Compensation: $1280/month
Location: Fountain Valley, CA
Training Duration: 12 or 18 months
Summary:
Tour operator specializing in river cruises in different parts of the world is seeking a trainee/intern in International Tour Operations. The company consists of employees from various countries and backgrounds, so the trainee/intern would become part of a diverse and international team. Due to the various backgrounds of our staff, we like to give young European college students the opportunity to live in the United States for a while to learn about the American business world. Past interns of ours have returned to Europe enriched with a wide practical knowledge of the American tourism industry, interesting new life experiences, and improved English skills.
Training/Internship Objectives:
- Reservations- learn the various reservation systems typically used in the tourism industry and how to actively use them while making reservations under the supervision of the reservation manager.
- Operations- learn the various international suppliers used by the company and how to communicate effectively with them to arrange complex travel itineraries involving cruise cabins, hotels, sightseeing, meals, transfers, etc under the supervision of the company's operations manager.
- Marketing- learn the diverse marketing tools used by the company and be actively involved in the creation of brochures, discount flyers, advertising in news media, email broadcasts, etc under the supervision of the head of marketing.
- Product Development- learn how to research new destinations and how to put together new itineraries to new destinations at a competitive rate. This stage requires a lot of research of destinations, supplier websites and brochures, and competitors' programs and rates.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Good written and verbal English skills. Additional language skills a plus (preferably in Serbian).
- Must meet J-1 requirements..
- Basic computer skills (MS Office, Internet)
- Outgoing and friendly personality even in stressful situations.
