Available J-1 Trainee/ Internship Position - Food Science: Quality Control/Assurance

Start Date(s): March 17, 2008
Hours: 40 hours per week
Compensation: $700/month stipend, shared housing
Location: Richmond, CA
Training Duration: 12 months


Summary:
Award-winning gourmet desserts manufacturer is seeking a student in food science (master degree diploma) to assist the Quality Manager. Successful candidate will assist to plan, organize, and direct personnel and programs to assure that the product line, both manufactured and distributed, conforms to the company's product quality standards, as well as government quality and safety standards and GMP's.


Training/Internship Objectives:
  • Assist in implementing HACCP, GMP's, Sanitation program (SSOPs), Recall Program and Quality Program.
  • Maintain and organize HACCP documentation and findings.
  • Assist in conducting laboratory testing, both internal and external, and ensure that proper laboratory procedures are followed.
  • Update, organize, and maintain documentation of finished product specifications (nutritionals, allergen statement, shelf life, packaging) and quality manual in accordance with corporate guidelines.
  • Update and maintain documentation for Kosher certification.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry or related field.
  • Previous internship in food science industry.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs system; PC-based computing experience.
  • Must be able to communicate in English and preferably basic Spanish.
  • Ability to take initiative, to maintain confidentiality, to meet deadlines and to work in a team environment is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and superior organizational abilities are imperative
