ARGENTINA - Country Information
Argentina holds a unique position among Latin American countries. It is the second-largest country in South America with nearly 37,000,000 inhabitants largely descendant from Spaniards, Italians, Germans and other Europeans. A very small percentage of Argentina's population consists of Mestizo and indigenous peoples, mostly located in the northern Jujuy province amongst fascinating archeological sites, volcanoes, small Indian villages and nature reserves. Argentina is a Latin American country where foreigners can feel at home and travel with ease. The type of Spanish spoken in Argentina is of a beautiful, sing-songy version of Spain's Spanish, and contains other peculiarities such as the use of the 'vos' form. Argentina contains endless possibilities for learning and discovering landscapes, people and cultural curiosities you may never have imagined. CORDOBACordoba is the second largest city in Argentina with a population of 1.3 million. Located in central Argentina 466 miles/750 km northwest of Buenos Aires, Cordoba is a university city with a vibrant student scene (100,000 students) and a rich colonial history. In 2006, Cordoba was named the Cultural capital of the Americas. When not in class or at their internship, program participants can spend time exploring the "old world" and emerging art galleries, as well as the extensive street markets and the vibrant social scene. In addition, quaint mountain villages and wondrous natural countryside are nearby, just a short bus ride away. WEATHER IN CORDOBA
